Kapitel 1: Die Stadt voller Ratten
Vor langer Zeit hatte die Stadt Hameln ein großes Problem: Überall waren Ratten.Long ago the town of Hamelin had a big problem: there were rats everywhere.
Sie fraßen das Brot, das Korn und sogar das Essen auf den Tellern.They ate the bread, the grain and even the food on people’s plates.
Die Menschen wussten nicht mehr, was sie tun sollten.The people no longer knew what to do.
Eines Tages kam ein fremder Mann in die Stadt.One day a strange man came to the town.
Er trug bunte Kleidung und hatte eine Flöte dabei.He wore colourful clothes and had a flute with him.
„Ich kann eure Stadt von den Ratten befreien“, sagte er zum Bürgermeister. „Aber das kostet Geld.““I can free your town from the rats,” he said to the mayor. “But it will cost money.”
Der Bürgermeister versprach ihm sofort viel Gold.The mayor immediately promised him a lot of gold.
Da spielte der Mann eine seltsame Melodie auf seiner Flöte.Then the man played a strange tune on his flute.
Aus allen Häusern kamen die Ratten und liefen hinter ihm her.The rats came out of every house and ran after him.
Er ging mit ihnen bis zur Weser, und alle Ratten sprangen ins Wasser.He walked with them to the river Weser, and all the rats jumped into the water.
