Kapitel 1: Der Brunnen
A woman had two daughters: her own daughter, who was lazy, and a stepdaughter, who was hard-working.
The hard-working daughter had to do all the work in the house.
Every day she sat by the well and spun yarn until her fingers bled.
Once her spindle fell into the well.
„Hol sie wieder heraus!“, hat die Stiefmutter böse gesagt.“Go and get it back!” the stepmother said angrily.
Bravely, the girl climbed down into the well to fetch the spindle.
When she opened her eyes again, she was in a beautiful meadow full of flowers.
Das Brot hat gerufen: „Zieh mich raus, sonst verbrenne ich!“She came to an oven full of bread. The bread called: “Take me out, or I'll burn!”
Then she came to an apple tree: “Shake me, my apples are ripe!”
The girl helped them both and walked on.
