Vor fast 500 Jahren regierte Kaiser Akbar über ein großes Reich in Indien.Almost 500 years ago, Emperor Akbar ruled a great empire in India.
An seinem Hof lebten viele kluge Männer, aber der klügste war Birbal.Many clever men lived at his court, but the cleverest was Birbal.
Akbar liebte es, seinen Ministern schwierige Rätsel zu stellen.Akbar loved setting difficult riddles for his ministers.
Eines Morgens nahm er ein Stück Kreide und zog eine lange Linie auf den Boden.One morning he took a piece of chalk and drew a long line on the floor.
„Wer kann diese Linie kürzer machen, ohne sie zu berühren?“, fragte er.“Who can make this line shorter without touching it?” he asked.
Die Minister schauten sich unsicher an.The ministers looked at each other uncertainly.
Einer wollte ein Stück wegwischen, aber Akbar sagte: „Nicht berühren!“One wanted to wipe a piece away, but Akbar said: “Don't touch it!”
Ein anderer meinte, das sei unmöglich.Another said it was impossible.
Dann sahen alle zu Birbal, der lächelnd nach vorne kam.Then everyone looked at Birbal, who came forward smiling.
